Reigate & Banstead's Living and Ageing Well Week – a packed programme of over 50 activities across the borough – has returned for its third year, running from 28 September to 2 October.
This year even more local organisations and groups are taking part. Sponsored by Anchor, the Week showcases all that’s on offer in the borough for those who are retired, including:
- two film screenings at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill
- sports including chair-based exercise, swimming, gym, aqua classes, badminton, short tennis, Pilates for the over 60s, walking basketball, table tennis and aerotone
- taster sessions in, among other things, art, bridge, tea dancing and line dancing, yoga and French
- and many other sessions from whist and the history of playing cards, through to bingo and a new/nearly new gifts sale.
Organisations and groups taking part include YMCA East Surrey, Staywell, Sutton & East Surrey Water, GLL and Age Concern.
At the heart of the week is National Older People’s Day on Thursday 1 October, celebrating the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society. Coinciding with National Older People’s Day will be our new Local Lifestyle Event at The Harlequin Theatre, where local groups, clubs and organisations will be displaying and talking about the services that they offer locally.
Launching the Living and Ageing Well Week programme, Cllr Dr Lynne Hack Executive Member for Health and Ageing Well said: "In Reigate & Banstead we know how important it is for everyone to live and age well – to stay healthy and lead independent lives for longer. Our Living and Ageing Well Week programme aims to help our retired residents explore new activities, clubs and social activities. Packed full of things to do, this year’s Living and Ageing Well Week will be better than ever before.
"With more than 50 different activities to get involved in, there’s something for everyone. Come along and try things you might not have thought of doing before!"
Jackie Cridlin, Community Partnership Manager for Anchor said: "Anchor, England’s largest provider of housing and care for older people are delighted to sponsor the Living and Ageing Well Week. Greenacres and Ridgemount care homes, situated in the Horseshoe, Banstead will be among the many local organisations opening their doors to residents living in the Banstead and Reigate area. Happy living for the years ahead!"
