At the Annual Meeting of the Council on Thursday 21 May 2026, Cllr Nick Harrison was elected the new Mayor of Reigate & Banstead for the municipal year 2026-2027.
Cllr Jed Dwight is the new Deputy Mayor.

Cllr Harrison trained as a chartered accountant and worked in the City for over 35 years before his election in 2003 as a ward councillor for Tattenhams ward (now Tattenham Corner and Preston ward). He was also the county councillor for Nork & Tattenhams from 2005-2025.
More recently he has been Chair of the Overview & Scrutiny committee overlooking council performance with much of his work focused on ensuring the Council’s budget and finances are sustainable. He has also been leader of the Residents Association Group of councillors.
He has lived in the Borough, in Epsom Downs, for over 40 years with his wife, Pamela who will be the Mayoress. They are proud of their three children: Tim, Freya and Rowena, and grandchildren William and Edward.
Great honour
The new mayor has chosen Change as the theme for his mayoralty. His charities are: MYTI Youth Club, and Age Concern Merstham, Redhill & Reigate. He said:
“It is a great honour to be elected Mayor and more so the Borough’s final mayor. I know I have been Deputy Mayor before but with this opportunity, I’m looking forward to meeting residents, businesses, local groups from across the Borough to work with our neighbours in the new civic landscape."
Outside of his council work, Cllr Harrison served as a governor of Shawley Community Primary school for 20 years and was a non-executive director of the Surrey Ambulance Service. He is a long-term supporter – and mini-bus driver - for AFASIC, the national charity for speech and language impaired children.
Locally he was pleased to promote the rebuilding of the Tadworth Leisure Centre with its comprehensive facilities. He also took a strong interest in the redevelopment of the former de Burgh School site. When the county council threatened closure of its smaller libraries, Cllr Harrison campaigned with residents for the Tattenhams library to become volunteer-run, and is now a trustee.
He enjoys travel and the countryside, having walked Hadrian’s Wall and taken part in the London to Brighton cycle ride in the recent past.
Very grateful
On becoming one of the mayor’s charities, Jeffrey Harris, Chair of Trustees MYTI Youth Club said:
“I have known Nick for many years, and I am confident he will serve the people of Reigate and Banstead - and in particular the hundreds of young people involved in MYTI - with distinction, dedication, and the highest standards of public service. Being selected as one of the Mayor’s nominated charities will make a significant difference, helping to raise both vital funds and awareness to support and expand the important work MYTI does for young people across the borough.”
Janet McCarten, Charity Manager Age Concern Merstham, Redhill & Reigate said:
“Age Concern Merstham, Redhill and Reigate are honoured to have been selected as one of the Mayor’s nominated charities for this year. We are sincerely grateful for this recognition and for the opportunity it provides to highlight our work supporting older people across the local community.”
About MYTI Youth Club
MYTI supports young people aged 8 – 15 years in the Tadworth and surrounding areas through the provision of after school and school holiday youth club facilities. Its key objective is to decrease anti-social behaviour in the area by keeping young people off the streets and by giving them a voice to drive their own self-improvement capabilities. The Club also provides hot meals for attendees many of whom would go without if not provided. It is open on Friday evenings from 4.15 to 7.15 pm, and during school holidays from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.
