Local Democracy Week
This section is about Local Democracy Week Events held at the council.
Local Democracy Week (LDW) is an annual event whose purpose is to foster a greater knowledge of local democracy and to promote the idea of democratic participation at a local level. Since 2004, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council have hosted a variety of events aimed at students from schools and colleges across the borough to further this purpose. LDW takes place each year during the week which includes 15 October.
In 2012 Local Democracy Week we played host to over 140 students from 6 of the borough's secondary schools and from Reigate College. Events took place over two days and included debate within the Council Chamber, a mock election, use of the latest council facilities, including the electronic voting system and also allowed students the chance to meet some of the lead officers and councillors. For more information see the Local Democracy Week 2012 page.
Schools, councillors and local people of interest
Each event is well supported both by the attending schools and by councillors and officers at the council.
Local Democracy Week 2013 will take place in week commencing 14 October.
