2. Social media guidelines

Our social media accounts are managed by the Communications team.

The Customer Contact team respond to your questions about the Council and our services as quickly as they can but often have to get answers from colleagues, so please be patient.

Moderating content

Abusive language or threatening behaviour towards our staff, or other users of our social media will not be tolerated. We ask users to abide by our social media house rules (see below) to keep our channels friendly and welcoming to all.

If a comment goes against the house rules we reserve the right to hide or delete it. Any accounts repeatedly breaching the house rules may be blocked from viewing or posting without explanation or discussion, and may be reported to the associated media platform.

House rules

Users should:

  • be respectful of other people and other views
  • remember there are people behind every screen reading your comments and posts, including council staff
  • only post accurate and up-to-date information, to avoid misleading others.

Users should not:

  • use offensive language, swear, or make malicious comments
  • incite hatred based on race, sexuality, gender, religion, nationality, or other protected characteristics
  • discuss or condone undertaking a criminal act or breaking the law
  • reveal anyone’s personal data or identity
  • make comments of a party-political nature
  • advertise commercial products
