4. Paying your Council Tax

If you’re finding it difficult to pay your Council Tax or your rent don’t ignore it. Take the three steps highlighted below.

Check whether you’re claiming the Council Tax discounts and exemptions you’re entitled to

2. Council Tax reduction

Council tax reduction helps people on low income with their council tax charge. This is means tested.

If you are not entitled to or have been refused Council Tax reduction, you may still be able to get some help towards your bill by applying for the Discretionary Council Tax Reduction Scheme

Council Tax Energy Rebate Scheme

The government's £150 Council Tax Energy Rebate Scheme to help households who live in properties where their Council Tax band is between A to D has now ended. The discretionary scheme for those in bands E to G who meet the qualifying conditions ends on 30 November 2022.
