There will be changes to all residents’ household bin collections between 25 December 2025 and 10 January 2026 as there will be no bin collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day.
To keep services running smoothly, our collection crews will be working on Saturdays throughout the festive period to catch up. This means residents will see their household waste collections delayed by one to three days until usual collections resume on Monday 12 January.
Councillor Hannah Avery, Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services said: “I want to thank our collection crews, and all the staff at the Earlswood Depot, for their dedication throughout the year. They get up early in all weathers to ensure we can recycle as much of the borough’s waste as possible.
“Please support them over the Christmas period, by checking your collection dates and letting your neighbours know so that we all put the right bins out before 6am on the correct day.
“We collect over 30% more waste than usual at this time of year so it matters more than ever that we put the right items in the right bin too. Getting it wrong can spoil the recycle efforts of your neighbours so, if you’re unsure about any item, please check it using the online recycling search tool.”
A greener Christmas
Our much-loved rubbish trucks, including Bin(g) Crosby and Binderella, love this time of year and are dreaming of a green Christmas.
To help residents know what they can and can't recycle, or to check which bin to put an item in, there is a handy Surrey Recycles Search tool at www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/christmas-bins. There are also seven simple tips to help people celebrate sustainably, which include avoiding cards and gift wrap containing non-recyclable glitter, foil or plastic.
Garden waste and Christmas trees
The garden waste service will be taking its usual two-week winter break so that collection crews can concentrate on the household collects during the busiest time of the year.
The last garden waste collection before the break will be Wednesday 24 December 2025 (Christmas Eve) and the service will resume on Thursday 8 January 2026.
Garden waste members will be able to put their real Christmas trees out for collection with their brown bins on their usual collection day during January. Anyone who has not joined our Garden Waste Service can take their trees to their local Community Recycling Centre run by Surrey County Council. A link to the Earlswood and Epsom centres can be found at Surrey County Council Community Recycling Centre (tip/dump) website
