This summer, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is running its most exciting and diverse holiday activity programme yet, offering children and young people a chance to get active and be creative.

With over 12 different activities available so far, and more still to come, there’s something for everyone this summer from African drumming and Athletics to Junk Jewellery making or Skateboarding. There are multiple sessions to choose from between 23 July and 29 August, running at locations across the borough, including the Council’s three leisure centres, local parks, and even the Town Hall in Reigate.

Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, Cllr Shelly Newton, says: “Young people are spending more and more time in front of screens, so we wanted to do more to encourage them to come and learn new skills, meet others, and boost their self-confidence instead. With one in five of the borough’s population aged 15 or under, we recognise the long-term benefits of promoting healthier lifestyles and improving young people’s health and wellbeing.

"By continuing to keep costs as low as possible, from just £3 per session, and including sessions suitable for those with special educational needs and disabilities, we aim to make sure all children and young people can enjoy their holidays."

Expansion of creative arts offer

This year’s programme marks an expansion of the creative arts. New for 2025 will be the Filmmaking Workshops, where budding filmmakers can get hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment and try their hand at directing, acting, and filming scenes for ‘Another Dimension – The Movie’

Clive Martin from Focus Film School, who will be running the workshops, says: “At its heart, filmmaking is a creative, collaborative and exciting activity. There are roles for everyone of all abilities both in front and behind the lens… the possibilities are endless.”

Other creative highlights include the vibrant Art Sessions inspired by David Hockney and Andy Warhol provided by the team at Sweet Faraday Studio.

Activities to get moving

For those looking to get physically active there are still lots to choose from, including:

  • Athletix Kids - sessions will run across Donyngs (Redhill), Horley, and Tadworth leisure centres.
  • Scooting and Skateboarding returns to Reigate Priory Skatepark, Preston Skatepark, and arrives for the first time at Horley Recreation Ground.
  • Outdoor Adventures and Multi-Sports will take place in the borough’s parks, offering something for all interests and abilities.
  • PM Active will be back (details to be confirmed) with sports sessions specifically designed for young people with SEND.

Affordable and inclusive

With prices starting at just £3 for a Treasure Hunt or creative LEGO session, and up to £25 for the three-hour filmmaking workshops, the Council is committed to making the programme affordable. Families in receipt of benefits or caring for a looked-after child may be eligible for a 50 per cent discount.
