Does your child - or a young person you know - want to develop their skills and experience in the performing arts?

Any 11 to 18 year old with a passion for dance, singing or drama can register for the casting call event on Sunday 15 January at The Harlequin Theatre. Young people with learning disabilities up to the age of 25 can also register and take part.

Star for a Night 2023

Spectacular show with free tuition and rehearsals

Star for a Night is the annual young people’s performing arts variety show, organised and funded by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.  It’s free to register and participate in, and every young person involved will receive 10 weeks of free professional tuition and coaching, as well as rehearsal time for the final show.

Last year’s spectacular event was performed over two nights to an excited, paying audience at The Harlequin Theatre.  In 2023 it will be for one night only and we’re expecting a big demand to buy tickets for the performance on Thursday 6 April!

A fantastic opportunity for young performers

Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, Cllr Kanika Sachdeva says: " Performing arts can give a young person the tools to be creative, confident, and collaborative.  Star for a Night is a fantastic opportunity for young people to explore and develop these skills and gain experience in the performing arts. Everyone who comes to the casting call on 15 January and is able to commit to the training and rehearsals, will take part in the final amazing show."

Urban Play and the Zapphire School of Dance will be providing tuition throughout the rehearsals and have also offered two free scholarships in each area of dance, drama and singing.

Cllr Sachdeva adds: “This programme gives a unique chance that helps young performers with their socio-emotional development, such as working and sharing with others, independent thought, empathy, compassion, team-building skills, and helps build personal confidence.

“Star for a Night will provide free expert coaching and a chance for scholarship prizes to the performers. Taking part in the final show on stage at the Harlequin Theatre is an unforgettable experience, and I encourage everyone interested in performing to register and give it a go!"
