The Council has confirmed that household collections will continue as usual over the festive bank holidays on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th December and Monday 3rd January.

This year the bank holidays will be on the first working days after Christmas Day and New Year’s Day which both fall on a Saturday.

Cllr Mrs Natalie Bramhall, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services said: “Our amazing bin crews will be working over the bank holidays so that there will be no change to residents’ collection days.

“I want to thank the crews and all the staff at our Earlswood Depot for going the extra mile this year, not just at Christmas, but week in and week out. They have faced unprecedented staff shortages, as well as larger than average volumes of waste, but have worked weekends and taken on different roles to keep this essential service running.

“Please show your support by continuing to recycle right and, with no changes to your collection dates, there’s no excuse for not recycling as much of your Christmas waste as possible.”

The Council’s rubbish trucks, including Bin(g) Crosby, are dreaming of a green Christmas this year and to help residents go greener, the Council is supporting Surrey Environment Partnership’s Watch Your Waste campaign. Suggestions for how to recycle more include avoiding glitter and foil on cards and wrapping paper and flattening the boxes from online shopping.

It’s important to remember that placing unrecyclable items in a recycling bin will spoil the rest of the recycling and residents are encouraged to use the handy recycling search tool to check any items they are not sure about. Garden waste members are reminded that the service will take its usual two-week break over the Christmas period from Monday 27 December. They will be able to put their Christmas trees out for collection during January once the service resumes on Monday 10th.

If you have not joined our Garden Waste Service, you can take your old Christmas trees to your nearest Surrey County Council Community Recycling Centre. A link to the Earlswood and Epsom centres can be found at the Surrey County Council Community Recycling Centre (tip/dump) website.
