Local Plan 2044
We’re starting work on a new Local Plan that will shape the future of Reigate & Banstead to 2044.
The plan will set out where new development like homes, commercial space and facilities will go and guide what that development looks like. It also ensures that facilities and services such as schools, health services and transport links are put in place to support development, and protects the environment and character of the area.
As a first step in the Government’s new plan-making process we formally gave notice of our intention to commence work on our Local Plan and set out our timetable for developing it on 31 July 2026.
The scoping consultation which is now open provides an initial opportunity to help identify key priorities, opportunities and challenges for the new local plan to address, and residents, local businesses and other stakeholders are invited to provide their comments by 5pm on 26 October 2026.
Once adopted, the new Local Plan will replace the 2014 Core Strategy and the 2019 Development Management Plan, and its policies used to make decisions on planning applications.
