Arts, culture and community continuation grants - now closed

The Harlequin Theatre & Cinema

This fund was established in response to the unexpected closure of the Harlequin Theatre and Cinema in September 2023, due to the presence of RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete). As a result, many local not-for-profit community and arts organisations were required to relocate their activities at short notice, often incurring additional venue-related costs. During the pilot year in 2025, up to £30,000 was made available to support eligible organisations affected by the closure. The funding helped organisations continue delivering activities for residents while operating from alternative venues.

Following the pilot programme, continuation funding was made available in 2026 for eligible organisations. Grants totalling £8,850 were awarded to support the ongoing delivery of arts, culture and community activities within the borough.

Applications for the continuation grant programme are now closed.

A review of the scheme is currently underway, and eligible organisations will be contacted regarding future funding arrangements in January 2027.
