About the project
Words of Westvale is a community poetry project for Westvale Park. Award-winning local poet Woodzy will work with the local community to gather words, memories, hopes and reflections about where they live. These contributions will be brought together into one community poem.
The project offers residents with an opportunity to connect, contribute their voices and help shape a shared sense of place.
No previous writing experience is needed, and people can take part in a way that feels comfortable to them.
How it will work
We invite residents to contribute their own short poem, lines or words. If you need some inspiration, Woodzy has put together a series of prompts around the ideas of home, everyday journeys and the character of the neighbourhood. See the contribution form below for details.
Afterwards, Woodzy will shape the contributions into a collective community poem that reflects residents’ voices while creating a strong piece for display in public spaces across Westvale Park that could include noticeboards, hoardings and community spaces, and in time, at the new neighbourhood hall.
This is your chance to see your Words of Westvale brought to life and celebrated across Westvale Park.
How to take part
To share your ideas, complete the contribution form below and email it to arts@reigate-banstead.gov.uk.
Over the coming weeks, Woodzy will also be out and about with his typewriter at Westvale Park, to hear from residents directly to create doorstep poetry and help inform the development of the community poem.
