Garden waste service privacy notice

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation – Information Commissioners Office (ICO). The purpose of this privacy policy is to tell you about what information we collect about you in order to provide a garden waste service.

Collecting this information

We need to collect and use information about you in order to process your payment by direct debit so that a garden waste service can be provided to you.

We hold your data for a period defined within the service area’s personal data retention schedule.

The following information is collected:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact details
  • Bank details in order to process direct debit payment

The lawful basis on which we use this information

We will only use your personal information when the law allows us to. The lawful basis for processing your personal data will be where:

  • Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract
  • Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller

Who we share this information with

We routinely share address information with other services in the council and with our selected contractors and third party service providers. Before we do so we ensure that we have put in place adequate measures with these contractors to ensure your personal data is protected.

We will share information with:

  • Reigate & Banstead Borough Council departments
  • Access Group Direct Debit and Credit Management System
  • Lloyds Banking Group

Information will be provided to those agencies securely. The recipient of the information will be bound by confidentiality obligations; we require them to respect the security of your data and to treat it in accordance with the law.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information (commonly known as a “subject access request”). This allows you to receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to check we are lawfully processing it.
  • Correction of the personal information we hold about you. This enables you to have any inaccurate information we hold about you corrected.Erasure of your personal information. You can ask us to delete or remove personal data if there is no good reason for us continuing to process it.
  • Restriction of processing your personal information. You can ask us to suspend processing personal information about you in certain circumstances.
  • To object to processing in certain circumstances
  • To transfer your personal information to another party.
