1. How your Council Tax helps to fund Reigate & Banstead’s services

For all the services Reigate & Banstead Borough Council provides, a typical household will pay £257.18 this tax year. That’s £4.95 a week – and about 14p more than last year.

While we collect your Council Tax, just 11 pence in each pound comes to us to help deliver over 50 services to more than 150,000 residents and 7,000 businesses.

Each year we face new challenges and have to make difficult decisions. We, like local authorities up and down the country, have not received core funding from the Government since 2017.

However we are pleased to have set a balanced budget for the year ahead whilst at the same time protecting core services and providing additional support to communities who need it most.

We are also pleased to extend our Council Tax Support Scheme – for residents facing financial hardship. You can find details on the Cost of living pages of our website.

We have agreed an updated Capital Programme, committing £53.680 million to investments over the next five years. This will enable us to maintain the buildings we own and reduce the energy bills associated with them. It will enable us to invest in upgrades to our parks, play areas and town centres, and to increase the supply of temporary locally available emergency housing.

We have also introduced an optional Council Tax e-billing scheme which we would encourage you to sign up to. Not only will it help save money in printing and postage, it will also help to reduce our carbon footprint. The savings will be reinvested into services and residents will benefit by being able to manage their account online.

We continue to work hard to maintain our strong financial position and deliver our five year plan, Reigate & Banstead 2025, to benefit everyone who lives in or does business in our borough.

Councillor Richard Biggs, Leader, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council
