We are working in partnership with SES Water to help eligible residents reduce the cost of their water bill.
What is the project?
Our project aims to support eligible residents to receive a discount on their SES Water bill. There are two different ways that a household can get a discount on their water bill:
- Water support – a 50% discount on your water bill.
You could be eligible for this scheme if your yearly gross household income is less than £19,995 before any deductions. Disability benefits are not included as income when considering a household’s income for this discount.
- Water Sure – a capped bill if you have a water meter.
You'll pay whichever bill is lower – the one based on your water usage, or an average bill for a household similar to yours. You are eligible if your property has a water meter and someone who lives there is on specified benefits or tax credits, and you have three or more dependent children under 19 living with you. There is also a medical eligibility route to having the Water Sure discount applied to your water bill - you can find out more by visiting the SES Water website.
What we are doing in partnership with SES Water
We are working to identify households who may be eligible for either of the two different ways of getting a discount on their SES Water bill.
To do this, we are using our Low Income Family Tracker and information that you have already given us when you made a claim for Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.
Once we think a household is eligible, we will tell SES Water, and they may contact you to confirm your eligibility before applying a discount.
You do not need to do anything – SES Water may either phone you, send an email, or send a letter to confirm your eligibility – they may have done this already.
Priority Services Register (PSR)
As part of our project, we are also helping SES Water identify households who may benefit from being added to the Priority Services Register. We are doing this by sharing the age of the people who live in that household.
The PSR helps SES Water look after customers who have health, access, or extra communication needs and to tailor their services to support households who need extra help; for example, when there is an interruption to their water supply.
Being added to the PSR is free.
Saving water
Reducing how much water you use is another great way to lower your bill. Visit our website to learn more on our My Sustainable Home webpage.
