Planning and Archaeology SPG
This section provides information about Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) on planning and archaeology.
Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) is produced by the Borough Council to provide extra guidance on and the interpretation of Local Plan policies.
The Planning and Archaeological SPG was adopted on 16 December 1993.
Purpose:
- to describe the categories of sites
- to provide guidance on taking archaeological considerations into account in planning applications, including standard planning conditions
- to provide contact details for consultation on works affecting archaeological sites
- to list in alphabetical street order the Borough's Ancient Monuments, Sites of Archaeological Importance and Sites of High Archaeological Potential and also identify in numerical order by Site and Monument Record Number. The location of these numbers are identified on Archaeological Sites Maps.
Key Messages:
- every effort should be made to preserve archaeology whenever possible
- when physical preservation is not possible, preservation as a record is essential, as once destroyed this information is lost forever.
If you would like information on how to obtain a copy of the SPG please call 01737 276204 or email ldf@reigate-banstead.gov.uk.
