Planning History Searches

This page is about Planning History Searches, how to apply for pre-1974 information and more information from our Customer Service planning desks.

New opening times for the planning desk

From 1 November 2009 the opening times for the Customer Services planning desk at the Town Hall will be as follows:

  • Monday - Friday  9am – 1pm.

This desk is for those seeking more detail than the standard searches provide, such as copies of drawings.

What information is available

We hold planning history information in a variety of forms reflecting the long history of planning data and our technical ability to store that information. Some data is held electronically and some as hard copies.

  • recent information (from Sept 2006 onwards) is available from our website on the planning application search
  • information from the period between April 1974 and Sept 2006 is available from Customer Services via electronic reports
  • information from the period between 1948 and April 1974 is held in paper and Microfiche records only and is available at the Town Hall.

In line with our Land Charges information we provide planning history information , post April 1974,  as part of the Standard Service. All other planning history information requires a History Archive Search.

In the majority of cases, planning history, provided as part of our Standard Service, is suitable for most practical purposes.

Post September 2006 planning application search

Details of planning applications submitted between September 2006 and today, including drawings and Decision Notices can be viewed online on this site:

Standard Planning History Search

The way that we manage planning history search requests on the planning desk is also changing.

Our goal is to provide customers with high quality and relevant information at a low cost. To this end, we can produce a report showing planning information, post April 1974,  on request.

This report contains:

  • Case Type – whether it is an appeal or development control application
  • Reference No – planning case reference number
  • Date Opened – the date the application was opened for consideration
  • Description and site address – details of the application
  • Closed Date – the date the application was determined and closed
  • Outcome – the outcome of the application.

We can provide this report:

  1. At a Customer Service desk (Town Hall or Help Shops) whilst you wait
  2. In response to email or paper correspondence to the Customer Services Team.
