4. Star for a night

What is Star for a Night?

Now in its 21st year, Star for a Night is a well-established and successful youth variety show. The project provides the following to participants free of charge:Star for a Night

  • 10 weeks of tuition in dance/singing/drama
  • Two performances on-stage at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill
  • The chance to win a scholarship to a local performing arts school

Register for Star for a Night 2020

Before registering to take part, please make sure you meet the eligability criteria and can attend all the rehearsal and show dates below. 

Casting - Sunday 2 February 2020 at the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill

Please register online in advance for one of the options below; drama, singing or dance. The casting is an opportunity for our professionals to meet you and find out your strengths, everyone who attends the casting will be offered a place in the show.

Drama casting - 1.30pm to 3pm

  • Please arrive at 1.15pm to sign in.
  • This is a group workshop and you will need to attend the full 1.5 hours.
  • Parents/guardians are not required to stay and will not be able to watch.
  • The workshop will be led by a team of professional drama teachers who will take you through various different drama styles to see what you can do.
  • You will not be required to show a pre-prepared piece.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in easily.

Singing Casting - 3.15pm to 4.45pm

  • Please arrive at 3pm to sign in.
  • This is a group workshop and you will need to attend the full 1.5 hours.
  • Parents/guardians are not required to stay and will not be able to watch.
  • The workshop will be led by a team of professional singing teachers who will teach you a song. You will have the opportunity to sing a solo line if you wish to be considered for a solo in the show. It is not compulsory to sing solo, you can sing in the chorus only if you wish. 
  • You will not be required to show a pre-prepared piece.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in easily.

Dance Casting - 5pm to 6.30pm

  • Arrive anytime between 5pm and 6.30pm.
  • Applicants will be seen in order of arrival until finishing time.
  • Please prepare a 1.5 - 2 minute dance routine, in any style you choose.
  • You are welcome to perform on your own or in a small group.
  • Please bring your own music on a phone or device with an aux input, we are not able to play CDs.
  • Please wear suitable dance wear.

Thursday 6 February to Thursday 2 April 2020 
Drama: 7pm - 9pm - The Harlequin Theatre
Dance: 6.30pm - 8.30pm - The Warwick School
Singing: 7.30pm - 9pm - The Warwick School

Saturday 4 April, Sunday 5 April, Monday 6 April, Tuesday 7 April 2019 at the Harlequin Theatre
Dance: 9.45am – 2pm
Drama & Singing: 11.45am – 5pm

Show days: Wednesday 8 April 2019 and Thursday 9 April at the Harlequin Theatre
All cast: 1pm – 9pm
Performance: 7pm

Eligibility

To be eligible to take part you must: 

  • Live or go to school/college/work in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead
  • Be aged 11-18 (11 year olds must be in school year 7 and young people up to age of 25 with learning difficulties may take part)
