4. Star for a Night

What is Star for a Night? 

Now in its 19th year, Star for a Night is a well-established and successful youth variety show. The project provides the following to participants free of charge:Star for a Night

  • 10 weeks of tuition in dance/musical theatre
  • Two performances on-stage
  • The chance to win a scholarship to a local performing arts school

Casting

If you would like to take part in Star for a Night 2018 come along to our casting and show us what kind of star you are! Everybody who attends the casting is guarenteed a place in the show. The casting will give our professionals an idea of what you can do and will help inform the content of the show. You can choose to either sing, dance or act in the show, the casting you attend will be the category you perform in.

Sunday 28 January at the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill

Please choose one of the following categories:

  • Singing casting - register from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Applicants will be seen in order of arrival until finishing time. Please prepare a verse and a chorus which shows your vocal ability. You are welcome to perform on your own or in a small group. Please bring your own backing track (without vocals) on a phone or tablet with an aux input, we are not able to play CDs. Alternatively you can sing acapella, the choice is yours!
  • Drama casting - 2pm - 3pm, please register at 1.45pm. This is a workshop style casting and you will need to attend the full hour. The workshop will be led by a professional drama teacher who will take you through various different drama styles to see what you can do. You will not be required to show a pre-prepared piece. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in easily.
  • Dance casting - register from 3.15pm to 5.15pm. Applicants will be seen in order of arrival until finishing time. Please prepare a 1.5 - 2 minute routine, in any style you choose. You are welcome to perform on your own or in a small group. Please bring your own music on a phone or tablet with an aux input, we are not able to play CDs. Please wear suitable dance wear.

Rehearsals

Before attending the casting please check you can attend the rehearsal and show dates below. We expect full attendance and committment to rehearsals. If you are unable to attend any dates, you must let the professionals know in advance and have a genuine reason. Unarranged absences may result in you being removed from the show.

After school rehearsals

Venue: Warwick School, Noke Drive, Redhill

Every Thursday for 10 weeks from Thursday 1st February to Thursday 5th April 2018

  • Drama rehearsals - 6pm - 7.15pm
  • Singing rehearsals - 7.15pm - 8.30pm
  • Dance rehearsals - 6.30pm - 8.30pm

Easter holiday rehearsals

Monday 9 April, Tuesday 10 April and Wednesday 11 April 2018:

Venue: Warwick School, Noke Drive, Redhill

  • Singing rehearsals - 10am - 1pm
  • Dance rehearsals - 10am - 1pm
  • Drama rehearsals - 12pm - 4pm

Thursday 12 April 2018:

Venue: The Harlequin Theatre, Redhill

  • Dress rehearsal and show 2pm - 9pm

Friday 13 April 2018:

Venue: The Harlequin Theatre, Redhill

  • Briefing and show 5pm - 9pm

Eligibility


To be eligible to take part you must: 

  • Live or go to school in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead
  • Be 11 years old by the date of the show.
