Write Out Loud

New for 2026, Write Out Loud is a series of events celebrating the written and spoken word. There are opportunities for budding writers and performers to get involved, as well as an opportunity to learn from published authors.

15-minute performances of new works

This brand-new Write Out Loud initiative will give local writers and performers a platform on which to showcase a 15-minute extract of their work in front of a real audience on Saturday 5 September as part of Arts Takeover.

An evening with Ben Aaronovitch

Join us at Redhill Library for an evening of conversation with renowned author of the Rivers of London series, Ben Aaronovitch. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to his books, this event promises captivating stories and lively conversation!

Spoken Word Café 

Redhill's first Spoken Word Cafe is a welcoming space for poets of all abilities to come together over food and drink, get creative and explore poetry in a relaxed, supportive setting. 

There is also the chance to take to the floor and share your work, whether it is something brand new or a favourite piece, in front of an encouraging audience.

Local Authors' Showcase

An evening event celebrating local writers. Audience members split into small groups of around for a fast-paced, engaging ‘author speed-dating’ experience. 

Each author leads a 10 to 15 minute session in their own style, whether that is a talk, reading, Q&A or a mix of all three.  

After every group has visited each author, there is time for guests to mingle, chat further and buy books.

Soap on the Ropes: Write Out Loud improv special

All the twists of a soap opera, none of the script! Prepare for scandalous secrets and sudsy drama! Soap on the Ropes is a comedy improv show featuring Eve Ainsworth, June O'Driscoll, Andy Smith, and Cam Harvey. Some of these experienced improvisers have performed at sell out shows at the Brighton Fringe and will be performing with ‘Who Killed The Plot’ at the Edinburgh Festival 2026.

Armed only with your audience suggestions, this dynamic foursome creates a completely unscripted, high-stakes soap opera live on stage. Expect betrayal, forbidden romance, and ridiculous plot twists - all made up on the spot and at least one iconic duff duff….

Introduction to Stand-up Comedy: comedy writing masterclass with Kevin Precious

Ever fancied trying your hand at comedy writing? Join stand-up comedian, promoter and educator Kevin Precious for a practical and supportive workshop exploring how to generate ideas, shape original material and find the funny in everyday observations. Whether you’re interested in stand-up, sketches, storytelling or simply want to build confidence with comic writing, this relaxed session will offer useful tools, encouragement and plenty of laughter.

This stand-up comedy workshop led by professional comedian and MC, Kevin Precious, is a brilliant way to learn, meet like-minded individuals and - most significantly - have fun at the same time.
