Dogs Public Space Protection Orders

This page sets out the Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) regarding how dogs' behaviour is regulated in parks and open spaces in and around Banstead and surrounding villages in the north of the borough.

Where a person responsible for a dog does not follow the requirements of the PSPO(s), the council may issue them with a fixed penalty notice of £80 or, ultimately they may be prosecuted with a maximum £1,000 penalty on conviction.

The parks and open spaces are listed in alphabetical order. This page includes parks and open spaces in Banstead, Burgh Heath, Chipstead, Hooley, Kingswood, Tadworth Walton on the Hill and Woodmansterne. 

Some areas are covered by more than one PSPO which, together, set out the rules specific for each area.

Alderstead Heath

Dean Lane, Hooley

• This is a dogs-on-lead-by-direction area, where a dog would need to be put on a lead if asked by an authorised officer of the council. 
• The area is covered by the order that sets the maximum number of dogs to be walked, which means no one person is allowed to walk more than six dogs at a time - we are proposing to reduce the maximum number of dogs one person can walk at any one time from six to four.
• The fouling of land by dogs order requires the person in charge of the dog to clear any fouling.

Banstead Downs

Sutton Lane, Banstead

• This is a dogs-on-lead-by-direction area, where a dog would need to be put on a lead if asked by an authorised officer of the council. 
• The area is also covered by the order that sets the maximum number of dogs to be walked, which means no one person is allowed to walk more than six dogs at a time - we are proposing to reduce the maximum number of dogs one person can walk at any one time from six to four.
• The fouling of land by dogs order requires the person in charge of the dog to clear any fouling.

Banstead Heath

Banstead Woods 

Holly Lane Banstead

Howard Close Recreation Ground

• This is a dogs-on-lead-by-direction area, where a dog would need to be put on a lead if asked by an authorised officer of the council.

Kingswood Recreation Ground play area

Lady Neville Recreation Ground

Nork Park Recreation Ground
