Household Support Fund

Crisis Resilience Fund

Funded by UK Government

Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF)

The Government has introduced the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) to replace the Household Support Fund, which was introduced in September 2021 and ended in March 2026.

The CRF helps people on low incomes who face sudden financial problems and supports activities that build long‑term financial resilience.  The  fund runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029. Surrey County Council has been allocated £7.1 million for the first year.

What the fund covers

The Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) has been made available to local authorities in England to help people on low incomes when they face sudden money problems and support activities that help people and communities become more financially secure.

  • Crisis Payments – emergency help for essential costs such as food or heating.
  • Housing Payments – support with housing‑related costs to help prevent homelessness.
  • Resilience Services – help for people to manage and plan for future financial challenges.
  • Community Coordination – ensuring local support services work together so residents can access help easily.

How to access support

Surrey County Council is currently working with local partners, including Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, to finalise how residents will be able to apply for support. We will update this page once the arrangements are confirmed.

Household Support Fund - seventh round - closed on 31 March 2026

Funding was allocated via the Department of Work and Pensions to help those families who are struggling financially in Surrey. Financial assistance was available for food, fuel, water and other essentials, and was distributed via organisations within the county who become aware of those families that are in financial crisis.

The last and seventh round of Household Support Funding was announced and ran between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026. The amount allocated to Surrey was £9. 3m which was a 12% reduction on previous rounds.

Part of this funding was allocated to The Everyday Essentials E-voucher scheme. This ran between October 2025 until 4 March 2026. This was an E-voucher that could be used at a supermarket of your choice to help with the cost of everyday essentials.
