Growing health through art and creativity

Growing health through art & creativity (Ghac) is a health and wellbeing programme, using art and creativity to enhance quality of life and boost physical and mental health for residents. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council are working in partnership with Growing Health Together, HERA, the Arts Council and Baring Foundation to deliver arts and creative sessions that are fun, mindful and that boost creativity and health. Evidence shows that 'getting creative' whether art, music, creative writing, photography, dance and other art forms gives many health benefits including better mobility and breathing, boosting immunity and improved mood and confidence.

The Ghac groups will run as weekly drop in or blocks of 6-8 sessions. People can choose what they would like to try.

There is also a free monthly, creative drop in on the last Friday of each month at the Harlequin Theatre. This is designed to be a low stress way to connect through culture and takes place between 10.30am - midday.  Sessions rotate between art, photography, singing, dancing and creative writing and are led by our Ghac professionals. We believe a healthy life includes creativity activity and people should not be 'shut out' of the arts because of status or income.

Any of our NHS colleagues, including admin can refer onto the programme as well as Community Development Officers, local charities and other key partners including local voluntary groups. People can also self-refer onto the sessions.
