Growing health through art and creativity
Growing health through art & creativity (Ghac) is a health and wellbeing programme which uses art and creativity to enhance our residents quality of life and boost their physical and mental health. Reigate & Banstead Borough Council are working in partnership with Growing Health Together, HERA, the Arts Council and Baring Foundation to deliver arts and creative sessions that are fun, mindful, and geared towards boosting creativity and health. Evidence shows that 'getting creative' whether through art, music, creative writing, photography, dance or through any other innovative way, offers many health benefits including better mobility and breathing, improving a person's mood and confidence. This type of creativity has also been shown to boost immunity.
Sessions run in blocks of 6 - 8 weeks with short breaks in between sessions.
Any of our NHS colleagues, including administrators can refer people onto the programme. Referrals can also be made by Community Development Officers, local charities and other key partners including local voluntary groups. Individuals can also self-refer onto the sessions.
The current and future sessions are outlined below. Please make a note to check this page for details as sessions are added regularly to ensure a constant stream of activities. It doesn't matter if you miss the first session, participants can book onto sessions at any point.

Sing for the Soul with Nina
Join Nina in these fun and uplifting sessions for a chance to discover the benefits that singing offers to both physical and mental health. The sessions are guaranteed to boost those endorphins.
Art for wellbeing with Louise
Louise's sessions have been specifically designed to boost self esteem. They are designed to offer a range of artistic techniques for people to try whether they are beginners or more experienced artists.
Art for relaxation with Karina
Karina will introduce participants to a number of art techniques. No experience necessary. Classes are inclusive, friendly, free and fun.
Creative Writing with Niki Mackay
Niki will guide writers through characterisation, plotting and more - all whilst having fun with words. Non-writers especially welcome!
Photography for Mindfulness with Dan
Dan will guide participants on gentle walks to look at the area through a different lens. No need to be an experienced snapper, as all that is needed is passion for photography. Sessions run over four weeks.
