Local artist, William Tatton Winter

William Tatton Winter was a Surrey‑based artist known for his detailed watercolours of Reigate, Banstead and the surrounding area.

Born in 1855, he trained in England and on the continent, gaining recognition from Queen Victoria and Queen Mary before settling in Reigate in 1897.

His paintings provide a valuable visual record of the borough in the mid‑20th century, capturing streets, buildings and landscapes that have since changed over time.

There are several Tatton Winter paintings on display at the Town Hall in Reigate which were bequeathed by the artist to the council in 1928.

Limited edition prints of these are available to purchase for £10 each, with proceeds supporting the Mayor’s chosen charities, Home‑Start East Surrey and I Choose Freedom.

The prints offer residents an opportunity to own a piece of local heritage while contributing to two organisations providing important support within the community.
