At the Annual Council meeting on 25 May 2017, Councillor Frank Kelly was elected Deputy Mayor.
Biography and background
Cllr Frank Kelly has been a borough councillor for Merstham for the past 6 years.
He is the deputy chair of Licensing and also sits on the YMCA East Surrey Housing Committee and Age Concern Merstham, Redhill & Reigate. He is a keen YMCA supporter and has participated in many fundraising activities including their annual sleepeasy, fun run and firewalk.
For the past 20 years Cllr Kelly has lived in Merstham with his wife and 3 daughters. He has worked for the NHS for over 30 years in various disciplines both in large hospitals and in smaller establishments. He currently works as part of a team with people with learning difficulties and autism. Both Franks’ parents worked in nursing and so the NHS has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. He has lived near many hospitals from Watford, where he was born, to Royal Earlswood Hospital in Redhill. Before becoming a councillor Frank was chair of both a residents association and also Subrosa Drive neighbourhood watch scheme.
In his spare time, Councillor Kelly enjoys going to the gym at the YMCA, watching Rugby (since he stopped playing several years ago), Karate - which he took up at 40 and also reading a good book. He also likes to spend time with his family walking their lively German Shepherd, Jestony Sunnygirl and socialising with friends.
