3. Visiting the Town Hall for a mayoral event

The Mayor would be delighted to invite your group or organisation to the Mayor’s Parlour to support a celebration of a special occasion, an achievement or simply recognise the hard work and dedication of your group.

The Mayor’s office will be happy to discuss how we can support you once you have read through the general information below.

Choosing a date and time

  • The Town Hall is open during weekdays only and events can be hosted between 10.30am and 7pm.
  • Allow 2 hours for an event.
  • Parking for large numbers of vehicles is available after 4pm.

Number of Attendees

  • The Mayor’s Parlour can hold up to 15 people.
  • The main reception room (Old Council Chamber) can hold 80 people standing, or 50 people seated around tables. Various layouts can be set up depending on your requirements.

Event Ideas

  • The event can be tailored to you, for example, the Mayor can give a thank-you speech or hand out Mayor’s certificates.
  • We can also arrange plenty of opportunities for taking photos.

Refreshments

  • The Mayor will host and provide tea / coffee / soft drinks / snacks / biscuits.
  • If you want anything more than this please contact the Mayor’s Office to discuss.

Town Hall Tours

  • We can take groups of up to 20 people at any one time on a guided tour.
  • Tours will include a talk about the history of the Town Hall and a visit to the old council chamber, the Mayor’s parlour and the current council chamber.
  • The ceremonial robes, chain and mace are usually placed on display.
