European Referendum

There will be a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union and this is likely to take place during 2016. Don't miss out on having your say. Make sure you're registered to vote in plenty of time. You can do this very easily online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, which should only take 5 minutes and you will need your national insurance number.

The local results for the 2011 Alternative Vote Referendum for our borough were:

Yes: 11,891

No: 30,827

Turnout: 43.3%

The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011

For 2016, the published verification number under the above regulations is 5165. This number is 5% of the local government electors in the borough and is used for the purpose of determining the validity of any petitions that are received asking the Council to hold a referendum on changing its governance arrangements.
