Register of Electors
This page explains the Register of Electors and how to make sure you are on it.
We publish an annual Register of Electors by 1 December every year. In September of each year an electoral registration form is sent to every property in the borough. By completing and returning your form you can ensure you are registered to vote for the following year.
Only people whose names appear on the register are allowed to vote. You can also be added to the Register of Electors throughout the year from December to August.
Register online
To simplify the process, residents whose details have not changed since the last annual canvass can simply
- use the Register of Electors online registration to confirm the details online (using the two part code on their form)
- telephone on free phone number 0800 197 9870
alternatively, complete the form and return it by post.
If the details on the form are not correct, please make the necessary changes and return the form by post.
People who are entitled to register to vote are:
- British Citizens.
- Citizens of the Irish Republic.
- Citizens of other European Countries - E.U. Citizens can vote at local government and European Parliamentary Elections only.
- Qualifying Commonwealth citizens. This means Commonwealth citizens who have leave to enter or remain in the UK or do not require such leave.
Changes during the year
Between December and August the register is updated monthly. If you have changed address since completing an annual registration form, if you will soon be 18, or if your name does not appear on the Register at all, you can complete a Voter Registration form to have your name added to the Register.
This form must be completed and signed by each person applying to be added to the Register and returned to the Electoral Registration Officer, Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0SH.
