2. Business rates

Business rates relief 2021/2022 - coming soon

From 1 July 2021 to 31 March 2022, the Expanded Retail Discount would apply at 66% relief for eligible properties in the scheme, with a cash cap of £2m for businesses that were required to close as of 5 January 2021, and up to £105,000 for business permitted to open at that date.

We are expecting further guidance in late April.

Business rates holiday 2020/2021

All businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sector will be given a business rates holiday for 12 months from April 2020. They will not be asked to pay in respect of the financial year 2020/21. Nurseries (non-local authority providers of childcare) are also eligible for a business rates holiday for one year.

Visit the Government's website for further guidance on Business rates: expanded retail discount.

Hardship Relief

Local businesses that are not eligible for the business rates holiday can apply for a reduction in business rates.
