Information on walking

4. Millennium Trail South

One of the Council's special collection of walks designed to celebrate the new millennium.

You start the south section of the Millennium Trail from the centre of Reigate and it winds its way southward ending in Horley, near Gatwick Airport.

You'll walk over historic Priory Park and see the impressive Reigate Priory.

Further on you reach Redhill Common, offering great views to the south, Earlswood Common and Whitebushes Common follow.

Sights and sounds of nature

These open spaces are full of birds, wild flowers and the buzz of insects. Ancient tree-lined lanes dating back to Saxon times lead you further south over meandering streams and through meadows and farmland.

Eventually the modern age of air travel appears on the horizon in the shape of Gatwick Airport.

You turn away and continue through pastures and fields to the town of Horley and onto the peaceful Riverside Garden Park where you finish your walk.

A tranquil backwater

From the dawn of the last millennium, our ancestors, including Pilgrims in search of enlightenment, have walked this way in peace and tranquillity.

Our busy modern lives make those simple qualities even more appealing. It doesn't have to be a boots on route march!

It can be part of a family picnic or a gentle stroll through an area of countryside especially appealing to you.

But rest assured, when you've seen what the southern section of the Millennium Trail has to offer you'll be back for more.
