Horley survey
In February, Tony and a team of volunteers spoke to 55 young people on and around the rivers/gardens area of Horley as part of his work around mapping activities. One of the big issues he found is that young people don’t use the platforms we use to share information on activities. None of the young people questioned used Facebook or visited the Council website. Whilst there is a significant number of activities available, young people stated that cost and transport were major barriers to participating. When asked how safe they felt in the area 39% felt safe and 28% felt unsafe.
When asked what they thought about the area 33% said there was nothing for them to do and 49% said that transport in that part of the town was an issue.
When asked what would make the area better 36% said a youth club, 38% a skatepark on this side of town and 45% wanted a dedicated social space for young people.
Tony continues to explore this issue with his Partnership Group.
YMCA Y Bus
Working with partners, Charlie was able to raise funding to bring the Y Bus to Whitebushes, an area with no youth facilities. As part of the Safer Redhill programme, Eli was able to provide local intelligence which allowed the Y Bus to visit Timperley Gardens. In both areas the response from young people has been very positive.
Bringing sports to local schools
The team have supported Reigate Rugby Club to connect with a number of local schools.
These sessions provided students with more than just a chance to play rugby - they also gained the physical, mental, and social benefits that come with engaging in team sports. This initiative fostered new skills, boosted confidence, and encouraged healthy, active lifestyles among pupils.
Community football
Charlie and Eli have supported the delivery of a successful community football project working with Redhill Football Club.

Community impact: 25% of the players in Redhill were girls. One of the girls who joined the Whitebushes sessions and had never played football went on to play for one of the Redhill Football Club girls teams. Jerry, the football coach won a RBBC Sports Award (Changing Lives Category)
