2. Action plan priorities

Each of our Community Development Worker (CDW) manages a local partnership meeting, bringing together partners and active citizens to discuss issues specific to the neighbourhood and collaboratively develop solutions. As part of this work, the partnership meeting develop an action plan which helps guide the work of the CDW. The plans are reviewed regularly at the meetings which are held quarterly. The priorities for each neighbourhood in 2024

Horley (CDW – Tony Freeman)

Mapping of youth services in Horley

  • Listening event for young people to identify needs
  • Promotion of services available
  • Exploring the gaps in provision

Social isolation and transport

  • Exploring opportunities and supporting existing offers and activities

Cost of living support

  • Developing the Horley Food Club and creating a network of support with partners
  • Ensuring people are aware of support that is available to them
  • Supporting the Horley Food Bank

Listening event: gardens/riverside area of Horley

  • Better understand the issues for residents living in this area of Horley
  • Explore opportunities to provide support locally

Merstham (CDW – Alice Oswell)

Lack of youth provision

  • Mapping of youth support and services in Merstham
  • Look at holiday youth provision

Social isolation

  • Exploring opportunities and supporting existing offers and activities
  • Ensuring residents know of local social events and groups available to them

Carers

  • Carers are aware of support available in the community
  • Carers noticeboard in the Community Hub.
  • ESOL support for parents

Food poverty  

  • Available food support for the community
  • CARB being accessable to support the community

Ethnic minority groups

  • To have cultural events to celebrate diversity
  • Support local MEG to set up networks

Preston (CDW – Maria Hewson)

Community voice

  • Regularly engage and collaborate with residents to ensure that their voice is heard and they have influence over changes in their area

Community safety/ASB

  • Support Preston residents to identify and address local community safety concerns, focusing on preventative and diversionary initiatives

Emotional wellbeing

  • Support initiatives which help improve residents’ emotional wellbeing

Food/fuel poverty  

  • Support and advise on food clubs and information sessions on energy savings with Surrey Community Action (SCA), Energy Action, Energy Manage CIC and CARB

Reduce isolation

  • Supporting projects and new initiatives to enable people to come together to reduce social isolation

Youth provision

  • Supporting affordable and accessible youth activities in the area

Redhill (CDW – Eli Karlicka-Cook)

Community safety

  • Empower the community to be more confident in reporting anti-social behaviour and make social housing neighbourhoods safer through Safer Redhill initiative

Health and wellbeing

  • Tackle health inequalities amongst priority communities caused by diabetes, obesity, difficulty in accessing a GP and lack of mental health support or experience of digital exclusion, loneliness, and isolation

Youth provision

  • Create safe places for young people to meet, offer free/low cost activities and events

Cost of living

  • Provide support to those most vulnerable with advice on employment and training, where to access support for increased cost of household bills, food and offer warm and welcome spaces

Awareness of 'what’s on'

  • Connect the community and professionals to activities and support available locally and beyond

Woodhatch and Whitebushes (CDW – Charlie Griswald)

Cost of living

  • Providing support to those more vulnerable to increasing costs of bills and food

Green spaces

  • Getting the community to connect with nature, helping to increase physical activity and good mental health in the community

Mental wellbeing and social isolation

  • Enhancing the overall wellbeing of families and households while fostering stronger connections to combat social isolation

Activities for young people (11 – 18)

  • Identifying existing activities and expanding opportunities for young people, particularly in areas where options are currently lacking
