Strategic planning

3. Gatwick Diamond

The Gatwick Diamond Initiative is a public/ private partnership established in 2003 to enable local authorities in the area to co-operate on strategic matters.

The Gatwick Diamond Initiative (external website) includes the authorities of Reigate & Banstead, Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex, Mole Valley and Tandridge. Surrey County Council and West Sussex County Council are also represented.

In 2012, the Gatwick Diamond local authorities prepared a Local Strategic Statement which:

  • Sought to provide a broad, consistent direction for planning and economic issues;
  • Identified the areas where joint working was most important; and
  • Established mechanisms through which co-operation and engagement could occur between the authorities.

In 2016 this document was refreshed to update the long-term strategic planning and investment priorities to guide plan making and decision taking for the authorities to 2031.
