Our programme of 'Reigate and Banstead Remembers' World War I centenary commemorations continues in 2018, including a FREE screening of the film War Horse, remembrance services and commemorative events. This listing also includes events run by other local groups and organisations that we've been told about.

RAF 100 Commemoration
Monday 26 March 2018 • 10.45 for 11am
Flag raising ceremony to celebrate the centenary of the formation of the RAF, followed by refreshments in the Old Council Chamber.

Armed Forces Day flag raising ceremony
Monday 25 June • 10.45 for 11am
Ceremonial flag raising to recognise the dedication of our Armed Forces, past and present. Followed by refreshments in the Old Council Chamber.

Heritage Open Day
Saturday 15 September • 11am-3pm
Explore our Town Hall, meet the Mayor, delve through history and local democracy, photographic displays. Lots for children to enjoy too. Everyone welcome.

War Horse the Movie
Sunday 16 September 2018 • 3pm
FREE screening of Steven Spielberg's acclaimed War Horse. The film will be preceded by a talk by Andy Robertshaw, renowned military historian who advised on the production and had a cameo in the 2011 film. Author Michael Morpurgo has signed two copies of his novel which will be raffled at the event in aid of The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

ESOSOC and YESOS put on a nostalgic evening of music, dance and drama to honour and celebrate those caught up in conflicts since the beginning of The First World War. Retiring collections for The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

Banstead Remembers WWI
Saturday 10 - Sunday 11 November 2018 • 10am-4pm, Saturday and 12-4pm, Sunday
Displays by Surrey Infantry Museum, the Royal British Legion, SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity), BLESMA (the national charity that supports limbless veterans), WWI medals and memorabilia collectors and Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.

Remembrance Sunday services
Sunday 11 November 2018 • 10.45 for 11am
Civic remembrance services at Shaw’s Corner, Banstead and Horley war memorials and services at local memorials around the borough to remember those who served to protect peace and freedom.
All welcome.
Beacons of Light
Sunday 11 November 2018 • 6.30 for 7pm
The borough is taking part in the lighting of a national chain of beacons to mark the centenary of the end of WWI. Local church bells will also toll around the borough.
