Upcoming and current play area improvements

Woodhatch Park play area

Work is due to start on 2 October as part of the annual play area replacement programme. New natural play features include a spider net, curly climber and woodland trim trail. Work is expected to last about two weeks.

Howards Close Recreation Ground play area

Work is due to start on 11 October as part of the annual play area replacement programme. New, inclusive features include a tipi carousel, wide accessible steps and hand holds. Work is expected to last about two weeks.

Ifold Park play area

Work is due to start on 18 October as part of the annual play area replacement programme. New play features, made from recycled food packaging, textiles and ocean waste, include a two tower multi-play unit and a wheelchair carousel. Work is expected to last about three weeks.

Completed improvements in 2023

Preston Park skatepark major upgrade

The skatepark closed in March 2023 for a major upgrade and reopened in July 2023. 

Lady Neville Park play area major refurbishment

In February 2023 the Lady Neville Park play area closed for a complete refurbishment, which would see ocean waste and recycled plastic packaging transformed into more than 65 new play features. Work has now completed, and the play area reopened on Tuesday 28 March 2023.

At the same time, a new 10 m x 20 m scooter zone was installed next to the tennis courts and the existing table tennis table was moved by a few metres to accommodate it.

New sensory play area for Priory Park

The Priory Park play area closed between 16 and 26 January 2023 while our Greenspaces Team installed new sensory play equipment. A new planting scheme was introduced in the summer.
