Horley market's future is secure
News release dated 29 October 2004 about the appointment of a new operator to run Horley market.
Horley Market's future is secure after a new operator has been appointed to run it. Wendy Fair Markets will be taking over the management of the weekly Saturday Market from next week (6th November).
I would urge residents to come along and support the market. There will be a wide variety of stalls and I am sure that there will be something there for everyone. (Executive Member for the Local Economy, Cllr Roger Newstead)
Councillor Roger Newstead, Executive Member for Local Economy said: "The Borough Council encourages markets in the borough's town centres as they add life and colour, boost the local economy, and are popular with residents.
"I am very pleased that we have appointed Wendy Fair as the new operator of Horley Market. Their first visit to the town will be on Saturday 6 November and stalls will be located in the High Street car park as usual.
"I would urge residents to come along and support the market. There will be a wide variety of stalls and I am sure that there will be something there for everyone."
Wendy Fair Markets, based in Ruislip, Middlesex, is one of the leading market operators in the country.
They have over 1,800 traders renting some of the 5,000 stalls that they have available each week.
They have operated over 90 markets in the 28 years they have been in business. They have been granted a licence for a three year contract starting 1 November 2004.
The Council appointed the new operators earlier this month following a re-tendering process after the previous market operators gave the Council notice to quit in August.
The Borough Council is investing in Horley with a revitalisation project being worked-up for the town centre. A task group is responsible for developing a vision for Horley Town Centre including the identification of opportunities for appropriate development, identification of possible environmental improvements, consideration of provision of community facilities and to develop a programme for public consultation.
