The Big Tidy Up scheduled for September

‘Love Where You Live’ the Council sponsored campaign has seen many community groups come together to tackle litter. The national ‘Big Tidy Up’ campaign is aiming to get the whole nation loving where they live.

Scout groups, residents associations, schools and churches, took part in the recent Spring Clean in which over 600 bags of rubbish were collected.

The success of the ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign and Spring Clean has inspired Reigate & Banstead Borough Council to get involved in the national Big Tidy Up campaign that takes place in September.

Keep Britain Tidy

The Big Tidy Up has been organised by environment charity, Keep Britain tidy, and aims to be the country’s biggest ever litter tidy up. People are encouraged to organise their own tidy ups in September.

Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive Member for Environment, said: “It would be great to see people getting behind The Big Tidy Up in the same way they got involved with the Borough’s Spring Clean.

“The Council takes pride in the beauty of the Borough, I think the success of the ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign proves that local people care about their  local environment as well.

"The Big Tidy Up is an opportunity for the Borough to take part nationally in a great campaign.”

World Clean Up weekend

The campaign will launch on 1 September 2008 with events linking to World Clean Up weekend taking place later in the month, however tidy ups can happen any time throughout the year, allowing you to take part in a Big Tidy Up whenever you want.

Love Where You Live Awards

Groups or individuals who take part in the Big Tidy Up will be eligible for nomination for a Love Where You Live award, a new Council initiative recognising the work done by local volunteers to improve their local environment - to nominate someone call Terry Boardman on 01737 276407.
