Love Where You Live awards

The Love Where You Live Awards is an opportunity to recognise the Borough's dedicated environmentalists.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is launching the awards for community/voluntary groups or individuals in the Borough.  The award will be given in recognition of environmental work carried out in the community aimed at making the Borough a nicer, cleaner, place to live in.

Community initiatives

Community initiatives such as litter picks, cutting down vegetation, new planting, or being involved with In Bloom competitions throughout the Borough are perfect examples of the type of behaviour that these awards aim to reward.

Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive Member for Environment, said: “Many groups and individuals have shown a great example by taking the time to do something of benefit to the local environment. The  Love Where You Live Awards gives the Council an opportunity to thank these people in public.

“The Council has been championing the Love Where You Live campaign for the past year, and the success of the campaign is down to those who have been proactive in keeping the Borough clean and beautiful.”

Good examples

Examples of recognisable endeavours include the Anglican Team Ministry of Horley’s recent community litter pick in Riverside and Langshott. The Council sponsored Spring Clean also saw many groups, including Merstham Cricket Club, the Reigate Scouts and various residents associations, take responsibility for their local areas by organising litter picks and spring cleans – a total of 600 bin bags of litter were collected.

There are also examples of residents in the Borough who voluntarily  litter pick their street week in, week out.  These are the type of initiatives that the awards are designed to recognise.

Nominate

If you know of an organisation or individual who is deserving of a Love where You Live Award please contact Terry Boardman on 01737 276407. The closing date for nominations is Friday 31 October.
