Litter Free School Awards

The Litter Free School awards took place recently in Redhill’s Harlequin Theatre.

The initiative, now in its fourteenth year, is aimed at encouraging pupils to keep a tidy school environment and reminding them of the importance of keeping a clean environment in general.

Awards

Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive Member for the Environment and Cllr Allen Kay, Executive Member for the Environment and Cosmo the Toad, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s environment mascot handed out awards to the victorious schools.

47 of the Borough’s schools took part in the competition and 40 Gold, 5 Silver and 1 Bronze award were given to the school.

Platinum award

This Year, Reigate School will receive the first ever PLATINUM award for being the only secondary school to achieve an unprecedented 10 years in achieving Gold at the awards.

Cllr Julian Ellacott, said, “The achievement of the schools that have taken part in this year’s Litter Free Schools programme is highly commendable. The achievement of Reigate School is particularly inspiring; I hope that more secondary schools will follow the example that the school has shown.

Love where you live

“The Litter Free Schools programme supports the Council’s ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign, which is aimed at getting local people to play an active part in maintaining clean and pleasant environments throughout the Borough. The Litter Free Schools programme is yet another great example of local action to improve our local environment.”
