Redhill bus station to close for refurbishment
News release dated 25 January 2008 about the closure of Redhill bus station to enable station improvements.
From Monday 4 February 2008, Redhill Bus Station will be closed for extensive refurbishment. Station improvements include the provision of a more comfortable passenger building, a modernised travel information shop and an upgraded bus waiting area that will allow larger turning circles for vehicles such as the new Fastway 100 buses, as well as to improve pedestrian safety. Better lighting and CCTV cameras are also being installed.
Temporary bus stops will be in place while the necessary work is carried out, which are located on Princess Way, Marketfield Way, St Matthews Road, Cromwell Road and Queensway.
A map showing the exact locations and routes of these stops can be found in local libraries, Help Shops, the Harlequin Theatre or you can
download a copy here (link) (58.1K) (59KB). A temporary ticket office will also be in operation in the Marketfield Way car park. Bus timetables are not affected by the closure and will be unchanged.
Once completed in May, the new buildings will highlight what an important major transport interchange the bus station is for Redhill and it will offer a more visually appealing structure to passengers and operators alike.
The works are being funded by the Communities and Local Government New Growth Points programme, Surrey County Council and from Section 106 planning gain agreements.
