Redhill workshops to feed into regeneration plans
News release dated 2 October about workshops set up to progress the regeneration of Redhill.
A number of workshops set up to progress the regeneration of Redhill will be held in October. Following on from the Redhill town centre 'stakeholder' group meeting in July, three workshops have been convened to discuss sustainable energy and construction; transport and employment.
"As part of our committment to the regeneration of Redhill, we are holding a series of workshops over the next months to examine key aspects of town centre regeneration." (Cllr Dr Daniel Poulter, Executive Member for Regeneration and Transport)
Invitations have been extended to a range of key stakeholders who will have a key interest in the workshop theme, the aim is to feed the findings back to the main Redhill stakeholder group later in the year, with the view consulting and involving the wider community next year.
Cllr Dr Daniel Poulter, Executive Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: "As part of our committment to the regeneration of Redhill, we are holding a series of workshops over the next months to examine key aspects of town centre regeneration."
The town centre regeneration includes several important aims:
- To increase the number of retail outlets and range of shops in Redhill Town Centre
- To encourage environmentally sustainable development in Redhill through high quality construction and design
- To continue to improve transport links both by bus and train by taking into account the needs of both commuters and daytime users of public transport
- To work to improve the night time economy and entertainment in Redhill town centre
The regeneration plans will be progressed through a masterplan framework, which will be used as a tool through which the Council can give confidence to and seek commitment from a range of stakeholders and match funding partners, engaging with private sector development partners, and the local community.
The Master plan will help:
- Define the current and future role of Redhill
- Identify what potential the Town centre has in terms of attracting and developing economic activity in all sectors including retail, leisure, and housing, with a vibrant feel both day and night
- Develop the transport structure to support growth and connectivity
- Change the perception of what the town could be - promote the ambition of a town with a cosmopolitan lifestyle that compares favourably with others across the region
- Position the centre of the town as the next big thing for developers and investors
Cllr Poulter, continued: "In consultation with the Redhill community, our aim is to put together a masterplan looking towards a comprehensive regeneration of Redhill. This is not a quick fix, but a plan for the next 15-20 years."
The workshops will be held on the 10th, 17th and 23rd October.
