Accessibility standards and guidelines
The site has been designed to conform with the Web Accessibility Initiative's (WAI's) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0). This is the international standard for accessible websites and content. These guidelines explain how to make Web content accessible to people with disabilities and any other special needs.
We follow these guidelines to ensure that this site benefits as many users as possible.
Accessibility guidelines exist to help producers of Web content ensure that their content accessible to people with disabilities. By adopting these Guidelines, we're helping to make the Web more accessible to users with disabilities and benefits all users.
All aspects of this website (especially the page templates) were carefully designed to comply with international accessibility guidelines. However, since there are around 100 people within the Council who write and maintain pages on the website, there may be a few pages that do not conform to all the guidelines.
We're constantly checking to ensure that the whole site conforms to these guidelines, and that all the content is:
- accurate
- clear
- easy to read
- accessible to all.
However, with so many contributors producing pages of content, this is an ongoing process. If you have any problem accessing any information on this site, please contact us. We will then try to:
- provide the information in a suitable format
- fix the underlying accessibility problem as soon as possible.
