Congestion Charging
This section provides information about the congestion charge which is levied on drivers in central London.
Congestion charging was introduced in London as a way of encouraging drivers in the capital to consider alternative transport arrangements.
It is also intended to ensure that, for those who have to use the roads, journey times are quicker and more reliable.
The London scheme requires drivers to pay a daily fee if they wish to continue driving in central London during the scheme‘s hours of operation.
To find out exactly where and when it operates, to pay the charge online, and to find out about payments and penalties, exemptions and discounts, see the Transport for London website.
