Allotments

This section provides information and advice about allotments, how to get started and reasons for having an allotment.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council currently offer 20 Allotment sites across the Borough. These sites comprise of over one thousand plots.

A full sized plot is 250 square metres and a half sized plot is 125 square metres. We recommend that unless you are an experienced allotment holder you start with a half sized plot.

No plots available

There are currently about 300 people on the waiting list so unfortunately there is a wait of about a year to get a plot.

You can still put your name on the list however by contacting the Parks and Countryside team on 01737 276136 or emailing jacqueline.hunt@reigate-banstead.gov.uk.

Reasons for having an allotment

Allotments provide the opportunity to produce organically grown and unusual varieties of vegetables not available in shops as well as many species of fresh cut flowers for the home or shows.

Getting started

If requested, the Council will arrange for new tenants to have their allotment plot rotovated. 

The charge for this is now £35 for a tractor rotovation regardless of the plot size.

If your plot is inaccessible for a tractor rotovation the cost of a hand rotovation is £60. 

Hiring an allotment plot

Initially telephone Reigate and Banstead Borough Council on 01737 276000. 

An Officer will then provide you with the contact details for the steward to the site that you are interested in.

A meeting with the allotment steward is then arranged so you can be shown around the site and choose your plot.

The cost of hiring an allotment

The Council charges the same rent for all of its Allotment sites.

• 2008 rent is £32 for a full plot and £16 for a half plot 

Allotment facilities

All sites are enclosed and have a water supply. In addition to this, some sites have toilets, storage facilities and even free manure deliveries to the site.
