Housing register

This section provides information about joining the Borough housing register. The register is a waiting list for affordable rented accommodation in the Borough.

Eligability for housing register

The Housing Register is open to all persons over the age of 16 years who wish to apply, with the exception of individual applicants who can be excluded in the following circumstances:

Allocation of accommodation

We operate a 'banding' system to prioritiise housing need.  Applicants are placed in one of five bands (A-E) plus a Key Worker band (K), depending on their circumstances. Within each band, applications will be listed in date order from when the original application was made, providing all additional requested information has been received. The ‘oldest’ application will be first on the list, and the most recent application will be last.

Bands receive a share of the available vacant properties. Operating the list in this way will ensure that those who have been waiting longest are housed first and that new applications do not ‘jump’ in front of existing applicants.

This means that the point of contact for everything to do with the housing register and applications for housing, including transfer applications* will be the Housing Register Team at:

*(Existing housing association tenants seeking a transfer should still apply to their landlord for assistance as some landlords operate their own transfer waiting lists.)

What happens next?

Once your completed application form and all relevant information has been received, we will write to you and tell you either:
