Housing advice and homelessness
This section provides information about the housing options available to people looking for a home.
Housing Options Service
This service aims to help people keep the home they have or help them find a new home if they are facing homelessness.
Our Housing Options Officers can advise on security of tenure and protection from eviction, as well as on housing options, and give assistance in obtaining accommodation and advice on welfare benefits and debt.
Among the options available to people in housing need are
- the Council's Housing Register (for housing with a Registered Social Landlord)
- renting a property from a private landlord
- Nextstep Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme
- Assisted Home Ownership
- The East Surrey Mediation Service (for the possible resolution of neighbour disputes)
A booklet is available that gives advice and information on obtaining accommodation in the Borough. It covers help in obtaining private rented accommodation, joining the Council's Housing Register, and useful telephone numbers for temporary and emergency accommodation.

Court proceedings
If you are facing Court action because of a housing problem (e.g. rent or mortgage arrears) you may be able to receive assistance from a representative of the local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).
The CAB is an independent not for profit advice agency who can offer advice on housing problems and debt.
A CAB advisor usually attends Reigate and Epsom County Courts on the day that possession hearings are held.
The CAB representative may be able to give advice, or in some cases may be able to accompany you into the hearing. In exceptional circumstances the Advisor may be able to speak on your behalf to the judge.
