Our Recycling Record
This section explains about the Borough's recycling record and how it compares with other areas nationwide.
We have one of the best recycling records in the country but the Council believes there is still room for substantial improvement.During 2004/5 the Council
- collected 11,935 tonnes of recyclable waste
- collected 38,865 tonnes of non-recyclable waste
- therefore recycled & composted 25.05 per cent of all household waste
This placed us in the top ten percent of all authorities in the Country and easily one of the best of the 11 districts in Surrey.
The Council is striving to improve the record still further but we need the public's help.
In some areas as many as 93 per cent of householders recycle, in other areas the proportion is nearer 60 per cent.
The Council is working to improve this percentage to 75 per cent across the Borough and eventually bring it to as near to 100 per cent as possible.
We have been door to door to speak to those residents who do not recycle and will continue to stress the importance of the whole community joining in the recycling effort.
