Refuse collection - clinical waste

This section provides information about the disposal of clinical waste.

The Council provides a collection service for clinical and medical waste. This includes items such as:

We take these items for incineration to ensure that they are disposed of safely and not left in ordinary household rubbish.

This is a separate service to your weekly household recycling & refuse collection, and takes place on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

This service is free for residents but chargeable for businesses.

How does this service work?

The Council provides special yellow sacks on request. These sacks are then collected by a special vehicle on Tuesdays or Thursdays depending on where you live.

We will continue to provide new sacks and collect them each week until you let us know otherwise.

Needles must be packed in “sharps boxes” which you can get on prescription from your doctor.
