Section 62 of Control of Pollution Act

This section describes the laws which restrict the use of loudspeakers in the street.

This section, subject to a few exceptions, makes it an offence to operate a loudspeaker in a street

(a) between 9pm and 8am for any purpose

and

(b) at any other time for advertising any entertainment, trade or business.


Exceptions include:

i) loudspeakers operated for police, fire brigade and ambulance purposes

ii) vehicle radios, tape and players etc where they are operated for the entertainment of the driver or passengers and are not operated so as to give reasonable cause for annoyance to others in the vicinity

iv) vehicle horns when operated for giving warning to other traffic and when operated so as not to give reasonable cause for annoyance to others in the vicinity

v) loudspeakers operated between 12 noon and 7pm when used to inform that a perishable commodity for human consumption is on sale from the vehicle and when operated so as not to give reasonable cause for annoyance to others in the vicinity
