Flyposting

This section provides information about the Council's stance on flyposting.

Flyposting is the act of putting unauthorised notices/signs on Council or private property.

The Borough has a zero tolerance towards flyposting. This is policy is equally applied to all commercial ventures as well as to private individuals and charities.   Flyposting is unsightly, distracting and it also lowers resident’s perception of safe neighbourhoods

Areas covered by this policy include:

In addition to these areas, it also applies to leisure land and the Borough car parks.

Under the Town & Country Planning Act, the Council can, and will where possible prosecute illegal flyposting.

Where possible the Neighbourhood Services Officers and Community Wardens remove unauthorised advertising as soon as they see it.

However, if there are credible contact details e.g an estate agents board or a web address on a concert poster, a letter is written to the person/company, giving them 48 hours, to remove the offending material. This is part of the legal procedure we have to adhere to.

Once the letter has been written, and the allotted time has expired a visit to the site/s is conducted and if the material is still on site, it is removed, with an invoice being sent to the person/company involved.

If the person/company erects further unauthorised material, the Council will again write to them giving them a further 48 to remove the signs.

Again if this is not adhered to a further invoice will be submitted.

A letter will also be sent to the individual or Company Secretary of Limited Companies informing them of the activities of their staff. It also states that if further unauthorised signs are erected the Council will look to prosecute the person/company.
