List of countries

List of Commonwealth countries, British Overseas Territories, and EU states

In addition to British and Irish citizens, citizens of Commonwealth countries and citizens of member states of the European Union are also permitted to register.

Set out below is a list of Commonwealth countries and member states of the European Union as at 1 August 2006:

3Citizens of the Republic of Ireland, Cyprus and Malta are eligible to be registered to vote in respect of all elections held in the UK.

Notes:

  1. Qualifying Commonwealth citizens and citizens of the Irish Republic can vote at all elections i.e. European Parliamentary, UK Parlimentary, County, Borough and Parish Council. They can also vote in any referenda.
  2. European Union citizens (except citizens of UK, Irish Republic, Cyprus and Malta) can vote at all types of election except UK Parliamentary elections.
